FARINHAS CONTINENTAL DELI - Abbotsford

Farinhas Delicatessen is one of those special types of delis that provide the best produce from all over the world. With a Portuguese background, the owners, Jose and Margaret Farinha, have their shop stocked with some Portuguese produce but being situated in a suburb largely populated by Italians, the variety of product is very cosmopolitan, catering for all tastes. Jose has 15 years experience in the deli business with a great passion for food, which shows when you enter his well stocked store.

Freshly baked breads, the best cold meats and deli produce, local and imported delicacies from deli cuts, cheeses, to marinated specialties such as artichokes, olives, sundried tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, anchovies through to some general everyday groceries, Farinhas Continental Deli is a must to visit. Just the smell as you walk into the store will entice you to buy.

All this at a very reasonable price. Specialised delis do tend to be quite pricey but as the local area has a few delis (all quite good) Farinhas Deli goes that little bit extra when it comes to the variety and pricing of their goods.

Their product range of oils, pastas, breads, cheeses, some fruit and vegetables as well as local and imported general grocery items is extensive with items from all over the world. You’ll be amazed at some of the products stocked, there is even, ‘bacala’ a salted fish that to some Italians is a real delicacy.

Well known brands such as De Cecco, Barilla, Divella and Granoro pasta; Spanish, Italian and Portuguese oils like Moro, Filipo Berio, Little General, Colavita and Carmen along with cheese ranging from ricotta (fresh, baked and smoked), Swiss varieties, tasty or mild Provolone from Italy and of course, Parmesan, (Parmigiano) which is available in 12, 24 and 36 month varieties.

Farinhas Delicatessen has a staff of 8 providing exceptional service with quality deli goods and they put in a lot of effort and time to provide such a service. Jose and Margaret have owned this particular deli for a year (purchased in Feb 2010) and within a few months of owning the business they won the 2010 Inner West Local Business Award for "Outstanding Delicatessen/Gourmet Food.

“We would like to thank everyone in the area for supporting our family business and making us feel so welcome in the area. Your support earned us the award and we are very grateful.” Jose and Margaret Farinha.

Note: Whilst I was taking the photos a customer commented on how she thought Farinhas Deli was the best in Sydney because of the variety of foods from all over the world and the great service. Many locals agree and I did find it hard to choose which photos to place in this hub, all of them looked so enticing. That is exactly how you feel when you are in the store, the food smells and looks so good it entices you to buy. The smell of the freshly baked breads is just fantastic, it really is a foodies paradise.

Farinhas Delicatessen is situated on 417 Great North Road Abbotsford NSW 2046 Australia with street parking out the front. Convenience, good food, great variety and friendly service with a smile.

This sounds like a great delicatessen and I imagine it has a lot of interesting things with Portuguese owners. However, it's all the way around the other side of the world for me so unless I plan on a long trip very soon I might not get to see this place. I did enjoy your hub go.

You may visit us one day Pamela so at least you have the info. The variety of goods in this store is amazing as I am sure you will have many such delis in the US. Thanks Pamela for your comment.

Hi JAB, yes their deli cuts are the best, although Devon wouldn't be my choice.

Akirchner, hi again and thanks for commenting. Our delis are not eat-in (some are becoming so though). Farinhas Deli is a local shop where we buy our goods and take them home to enjoy.

Thanks for commenting, nice to hear from you both.

Disappointed 8 weeks ago

Really disappointed that Jose and Margaret are no longer there. The new owner has really no idea in what they are doing, & don't get me started on the young dumb bloke who works there.

CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHERE JOSE IS WORKING? PLEASE.

Sorry, I wish I knew too. I do know they were taking a year off, other than that I can't help you.
